What is Platelet rich plasma therapy
PRP Skin Regeneration Therapy uses components in your blood
called platelets. Platelets are responsible for creating clots and repairing
blood vessels after injuries. Platelets also release growth factors important
for tissue recovery, healing and collagen production, to name just a few. Other
medical applications include, orthopedic surgery, wound healing, sports
injuries and reconstructive surgery.
What can I expect during my appointment.
Prior to all treatments at Fab Clinic A full medical history will be taken and you will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns and expected outcomes. You will need to complete a consent form prior to your treatment and pre treatment photos will be taken. In order to extract the plasma we need take a one or two small vials of blood from your arm, in the same way we would for a normal blood test. These special tubes will then spin in a centrifuge for a couple of minutes to allow the blood to separate and the plasma to be extracted. Once this process is complete, the platelet rich plasma is gently injected into the areas being treated on the face and neck or hands. PRP may also be used in conjunction with the Dermapen 4.
Does the treatment hurt?
When injecting into the skin, some people may find the treatment to be mildly uncomfortable. You may feel a stinging, tingly and a warm sensation under the skin. The treatment area may swell, lasting from a few hours to 2 days, and you may experience some bruising. For sensitive areas such as lips, a topical numbing cream may also be used to improve your comfort.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
Most people return to their normal activities soon after the treatment, however we do recommend to allow at least 3 weeks prior to big events such as weddings before your treatment. PRP is injected into the skin with a fine needle. You may experience some post treatment swelling, tenderness, bruising and redness that can last up to 14 days, but nothing that a little concealer can't hide.
Risks and side effects
Because PRP is derived form your own cells, there is no risk of any allergic reactions an especially However, anytime a needle pierces the skin, there may be a small risk of infection, bleeding and bruising. Infections are very rare and the risks are minimised by safe, clean, aseptic techniques when performing the procedure.
How long will my result last?
Results is typically noticed a few weeks after treatment. Skin
appears firmer and more radiant and texture begin to improve. Skin continue to
regenerate new cells and collagen and a greater improvement may be noticed 3
months after the treatment. Because it is a natural process taking place,
results take time and can vary between individuals. For the best outcome, PRP treatments are typically done in a series of 3 every 1-2 months with a booster treatment yearly.
Estimated Cost
The cost the treatment varies depending on the area of treatment. To determine exactly what you need I recommended a consultation before any treatment. I will discuss the estimated cost before your treatment.
